4: Swimming Highlights?  1961 State Swimming Titles making several finals but unable to medal. Most highlight revolve around my Water Polo career, representing Victoria, South Australia and Queensland at 7 National Titles between 1969 and 1981. Two overseas water polo tour New Zealand Games 1975(Russia, Hungary, Yugoslavia, Aust. & USA and New Zealand) and 1976 tour Japan, Hong Kong, Phillipines and Singapore) Gold Medal Australian Masters Games 1982 (4 X 50m Relay, silver 400 meters Freestyle.


5: Biggest influence and coach? First swimming coach Marjore McQuade (Australia’s youngest Olympian 1948 London Games (13 years of age), and National Water Polo coach Ron Wootton.

6: Swimming Idol? John Marshall (Local Brighton boy at one stage of his career he held every freestyle  World Record from 110 yards to the 1650 yards.) See plaque on wall outside Baths.

7: Pool or Ocean? Ex pool now bay.

8: How many kms a week? Approx. 10kms per week in winter, 15 kms in summer.

9: Longest swim and how many hours in the water? Many 5 kms swims over the last 20 years, normally around 1hr 20min.


10: Favorite place you have swam?  Portsea front beach 1.2k course point to point at Christmas time.


11: Coldest place you have swam and temp? Brighton Baths 7plus.


12: Roughest swim eg. Wave height and wind speed? First 5 km swim 1989 Brighton Baths to Greenpoint and back. (2 metre swell)

13: Swimming goals? Swim The Channel.

14: What or who motivates you?  The love of the water since first competitive swim in 1954.

15: How much is :- Physical? Mental? Enjoy the endorfins kicking in.

16: Favorite saying?   “Put a horn on a jellyfish”

17: Biggest fear swimming”  eg.. cold jellyfish, sharks etc? Sharks!!!!

18: Swimming close calls? Bad cramps at the end of a 5 km swim.

19: Tips for other swimmers? Try to improve your technique which is the most important way to swim faster.


20: What would you eat and drink during a swim? I don’t

21: Worst place you have swam? The Old Olympic Pool that used to be in Batman Avenue.


22: Worst injuries? Dislocated shoulder.

23: Favorite food, drink, music, movie and holiday destination?

Food? Asian Food

Movie?  The Adventures of Barry McKenzie,

Holiday? Vietnam.

24: What do you think of when you are in the water for hours? Ways to make more money.


25: Where is one place you haven’t or would like to swim? Turkey.


26: 3 people you would invite to dinner? Rod Stewart,Kieran Perkins and Elle McPherson.


27: Cold water tips? Keep your head warm.

28: Toughest competitor? Ted Gallagher (Lorne).

29: Diet and how much is weight a factor on long distance swims? Try eat as healthy as possible and lighter I am the better I swim.


30: Pet hate? Swimming in a pool in a lane with swimmers wearing flippers!!!.

31: Biggest thrill? Finishing top 30 in approx. 45 minutes Pier to Perignon at over 50 years of age.

32:Favorite sport besides swimming?Water Polo.

33: Who would you like to sit next to on a plane:? An off duty air hostess that without any inibitions.

34: Car you drive?  Lexus IS 250.

35: Next swimming challenge? A 10 km swim somewhere.

36: Occupation? Business Broker.
